Valentine's Day - go-on, be brave

Dating Mistakes

Posted by The RSVP Team on

Valentine's Day - a day that fills single people with dread. It feels like the cards, teddy bears and flowers have been in the shops since Christmas, rubbing it in your face that you are on your own and romance is a dim and distant memory, if a memory at all. Depressing huh?

Well no - why should couples have all the fun?

Think about it this way...How many mismatched couples (they didn't use RSVP!) have you seen actually looking bored in a restaurant on the big V Day? There's really no need to be sad about Valentine's Day - it's time to reclaim it for the singles and have some fun.

There is actually no better time to put your best foot forward and reach out to other singles. Other than the week after New Year's Day, Valentine's week is actually one of the busiest times on RSVP, with more members joining and more Kisses sent. In fact, we are expecting over 80,000 Kisses to be sent on the Sunday before Valentine's Day.

And unlike when you walk in a bar, you know that everyone on RSVP is actually single - so you can 'get your flirt on' in the knowledge that you are in like-minded company. You can also choose who you flirt with...unlike when your mates or your mum set you up on a dodgy blind date.

At RSVP, we get contacted every day by people who have met someone special using the site and want to share their story. In fact, 8% of Aussie's met their current or most recent partner online.

So, how do you get the most out of RSVP this Valentine's, and maybe even get a date in time for the day? The best advice is to be pro-active. The people who have the most success with online dating are a little bold. Don't just wait for other members to approach you. If you see someone you like, go-on, send them a Kiss (that includes you ladies). Sometimes you might be rejected, but what have you lost...fortune favours the brave and by reaching out to more members you are increasing your odds.

And everyone likes to receive a compliment, so you have probably helped make someone else's day. And who knows where that Kiss could lead if you take their fancy too...

Hey all ~ Did you know that February 13 is now officially Mistress's Day?
~~~where the mistress gets showered with gifts (of a romantic~exotic nature and out of town dinners) as he makes his excuses for not being available on Valentine's Day~ because she isn't as yet aware of the wife.
And on Valentine's Day, the wife has his devoted attention (cups of tea in bed/maybe a dinner out somewhere VERY private~though usually he will suggest a pizza in~~~and gifts are mostly usefuls, like a new toaster etc)
So if you did not know~now you do.
And you also now know why the poor buggar is always so fatigued
Ain't life fun~and FULL of surprises!!!
And I have an idea for a new business venture~(making Mistress cards.)
Should proove to be very lucrative~and so much fun~'coz I am also a poet. :-/ )))
Greetings reader,
There are many tales towards the start of Valentine's Day, the Vatican Bumper Book of Martyrdom, states that Valentine was a priest who married soldiers, due to a prohibition on Soldiers to marry. Potentially true, but very unlikely all military commanders since Thag the Dinosaur Slayer have known that Soldiers fight better if their families are in danger (there is no where else to go, win or die). The Romans knew this better than anyone (Masada, anyone).
There is considerable speculation that the Feast of Valentine was a celebration of Venus (Goddess of love and fertility) and that the church hijacked it's use to persuade pagans that under the one God rule, the rites of Venus could still be pursued (this acyually makes sense when you consider how many of the old gods of many cultures became Saints under the early days of the Church (Catholic means Universal).
Chaucer was the first recorded mention of Valentine's Day, but considering how many different ways Valentines day is celebrated (Orthodox Valentines Day is in July) and the number of roman festivals that became Christian celebrations (Roman Saturnalia festival is celebrated today as Christmas).
A lot of the early traditions of the Christian Church, were derived form prior Roman and local cultural celebrations.
As for Gangsters and Massacres, what can you say, just sheer coincidence.
Tailgunner. Where were we .....yes, QMW said poetry...eeek! and go see what TG thinks. Again, wrong, you can't have both, in dating quantity and quality are incompatible, you'll learn over time one rarely guarantees the other. You lost count after about 20-30 notches, still 'early days' you're doing fine, you have to walk before you can run. At this stage don't let anyone force their style onto you, frolicking through the bush in Roman sandals picnicking and cavorting with a girl that makes you look good with will edge the count up all the time. A bit old fashioned, but I get it, sheep in wolf's clothing, needs some tweaking; predictable, but seems working for you - little risk of intelligent fem who cares - you'll just have to let it run its course - go for it.
@ soso the Romans believed that if the men/soldiers were married they would not be good soldiers;;;because they would be afraid to die as they had something to live for...wife and family....an unmarried man would be more likely to fight to the death as he had nothing to lose..So the Emperor decreed that no soldiers could be married..my post from yesterday has the goss :) as for the Valentine day massacre...that was a shoot out that happened on Valentines day...like our Fathers day massacre..... :) there were other St Valentines...all martyred and then sainted for one reason or another...in my personal opinion...the Roman dude has my vote.....
Thanks soso. Quite amazingly, only a few hours after I posted that question, the radio announcer on 2 GB gave a complete rundown on the history of Valentine's Day! Talk about timing!
Berwickchick, thanks for the compliment and it'd be great to meet you at the Irish pub in Southbank if you can make it next Monday evening.
big, count down is increasing in speed for the Melbourne trip!!
@ AlwaysHope...what does that mean even???? "luv" is pseudo love, a pretend, dress them up and spoil them so they think they are "in" thats all... nothing less, nothing more..." are they aware it is psuedo love...a game a pretense .....a charade???? you know there are people who have differing needs and wants and lists and whatevers...fetishes....name it you can probably accommodate your particular peccadillo and if not Google can help ( I am so marrying Google) so why the need to pretend???? seems kind of mean to make someone think they mean something to you when they don't...kind of cruel......it's all fun and games until someone gets their heart broken.....maybe it doesn't really matter unless it's your feelings that someone is playing with??? not nice :(
TG,
The Shopkeeper & other customers' eyes would have popped out of their eyes. .. at your um... bravo... but if you are as good as you say... & your lady was near by. .. she may have just smiled & nodded... & taken you by the hand & led you away. Would have left everyone guessing anyway.
"If a shop girl asked me that I'd probably unzip & put it on the counter for her insolence"
TG, I wonder if you'd do that if it were a male shop assistant enquiring.
Or the shop was a butcher's.
Sounds like TG has found SOSO on FB too.. I'm more interested in how many messages/cards/gifts the ladies have sent out. Come on, fes up girls. Who hasn't followed my advice? ('a curious mind would like to know').,
Gentle the tradition was started a LONG tome before that, but there are several different versions of Valentine. One from the Roman days, a rogue priest so to say who went against the edicts of the ARMY that did not allow young men to marry as they wanted them to be soldiers. Valentine would marry couples in secret.. but I'm sure there are other versions and I'm sure Warren has the "correct" one!
SOSO who received a card from a secret admirer and wondering which friend sent it!! There's even a rhyme in it.
Just walked into a shop. Ladies behind counter asked a male customer if he has bought his VDay pressie. He replied 'no, people should show their love every day of the year'. Course, I had to butt in.. exclaiming 'that's a cop out & we women don't buy it. Just buy her a gift!!' he just smiled.. If he knew what was good for him, he would take my advice.. hehe
Can one of the more intelligent people on this site please explain to this simpleton how Valentine's Day went from being a massacre in the middle of gang wars in Chicago in the twenties to a celebration of long-lost loves? Or have I mixed two completely different things?
big, who'll be at the southbank end of the pedestrian bridge in Melbourne on Monday afternoon waiting for his Valentine!!
