Driven. A perfectionist. Unpredictable. Real.
These adjectives speak mountains about sassy new Australian artist Cassie Davis. Hailing from Perth, Cassie is one of the new breed of young artists who isn't just a writer and singer, but a multi-instrumentalist and a studio-savvy producer.
Multi-talented and multi-dimensional Cassie's music speaks for a generation which, when it comes to style, don't have to have one or another. They can simply have it all.
"I've always been that kind of girl," beams Cassie Davis. "On my eighth birthday I got a guitar and that's when I started writing songs and playing."
She recorded her first songs at 12 and by the time she was 20, Cassie also knew her way around a production studio and was familiar with every aspect of writing and producing songs.
"When I was 13, I already knew this was what I wanted to do," says Cassie, who produced her first songs with two tape recorders, playing and recording between them to add all the instruments and the backing vocals.
Following the success of her Top 5 Australian Airplay & Top 11 charting debut hit single 'Like It Loud' singer, song-writer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Cassie partnered with a melody of musical hotshots and greats including Travis McCoy, Printz Board and Phillip 'Fish' Fishbone for the release of her much anticipated second single 'Differently'.
"I am excited to release 'Differently', it is a track that celebrates those who are not afraid to go against the grain and embrace their individuality," Cassie added.
Of working with Travis McCoy, Cassie said: "I feel incredibly blessed to have had the opportunity to work with many amazing artists on 'Differently.' To have the privilege of working with the creative force that is Travis McCoy has been a truly inspiring, insightful and out-of-this-world experience."
"Travis is an artist that I am a big fan of and admire. I hope that through my involvement in music my peers will hold me in the same light," added Cassie.
Having spent much of the last few years working between studios and stages in the US and Australia, already Cassie has garnered a fan base amongst some of the American music industry's most illustrious - and hot - names. After hearing some of her songs in the hands of Printz Board (Black Eyed Peas musical director) singer Fergie picked up the phone and called Cassie to offer her support and encouragement. Fergie even admitted one of Cassie¿' ballads had made her cry.
Then there's uber-producer Rodney Jerkins (Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Beyonce) who has been generous with advice and taking Cassie under his wing. Songwriter and producer Wayne Wilkins (Beyonce, Kylie, Natasha Bedingfield, Pink) is also in Cassie's corner and has already brought her in to work on a number of writing and production projects. Both producers have urged Cassie to continue following the unique musical path she has begun to forge for herself.
Adding another string to this young artist's bow is the fact that Sony Music didn't just sign the singer but also signed her record label 12 Stones, which she co-owns and runs with older sister Emma. It means Cassie will have future power to sign acts to 12 Stones and produce them.
There's little doubt she'll apply the same level of care to them as to her own work, because when it comes to music everything about Cassie Davis is striving for perfection.
"I want things to sound just the way I hear them in my head. When I write songs I'm usually sad or angry but the songs always come out positive and it gets me out of that rut or that feeling of sadness. Most of my songs are up-beat and positive, which I generally am as well."
"I won't be held back by other people's opinions of me or my music. I write for me and the songs are about stepping out and being who you are."
