New Yorker Harvey Shine (Dustin Hoffman) puts his dead-end job as a jingle writer in jeopardy to attend his daughter's wedding in London. Yet on arrival, his daughter tells him she's asked her stepfather to walk her down the aisle. Lonely Kate (Emma Thompson), a 40-something woman whose life is limited to work, the occasional humiliating blind date and endless phone calls from her smothering mother, meets Harvey at the airport bar and they soon find themselves happily thrust into an unexpected romance. The growing connection between the pair inspires both as they begin to transform one another's lives and discover that it's never too late for love.
