Golf crowdSo why doesn't the Australian media promote our golfers with the same intensity that say, Sonny Bill Williams or Loti Toquiri, receive? Sure, the sport doesn't have the same intensity or speed that rugby does but it is still worth looking it. And we have some great Aussie golfers out there who definitely deserve the praise and attention.

Aussie media hasn't always been hard on our golfers, indeed Greg Norman's early form had him labelled as 'The Great White Shark' in 1981 by a newspaper reporter and our media proceeded to talk about him everywhere. Recently with his form in the US British Open he also received worthy media attention. However during his career he did copp flack, being touted the 'Great White Choker' courtesy of the Australian media.

We also have some other, possibly not so well known golfers including Geoff Ogilvy, Adam Scott and Robert Allenby to name a few. These guys haven't been a stranger to the negative media attention either.

"If you look back and look at the abuse that the media did give Greg Norman, eventually he'd just had enough and said, 'I'm not coming back'. That's kind of what happens to a lot of players." Robert Allenby

Is that why Ogilvy and Scott didn't come back for the Australian masters?

So, is it tall poppy syndrome? Or is it just that this is the only way the Aussie media know how? Are they trying to make them better?

Whatever the reason it is worth noting that, despite their sometimes failings and not always being in top form, they deserve our respect and praise. It is hard enough mastering the game of golf in a leisurely environment, let alone on a world stage!

So... good on you fellas and keep up the good work!
