The online secret of success

3 winners: Sam, Alison & Kirsten

With its powerful insight into the personal challenges of being overweight, The Biggest Loser has become one of the most popular shows on Australian TV. It charts the journey of a group of individuals as they shed sweat and tears and years of unhealthy eating habits to emerge stronger, slimmer and healthier in body and mind.

But few people know that behind the scenes at The Biggest Loser headquarters, contestants of the show log in regularly to The Biggest Loser Club, a powerful and user-friendly online resource designed to help people lose weight and learn healthy eating habits while monitoring and celebrating progress. Thousands of Australians have been inspired by The Club's unique features and together, have lost more than 52,000kg.

The Biggest Loser Club was an important part of the success of Sam Rouen, Alison Braun and Kirsten Binnie, the final three contestants of the 2008 series. Here's what they have to say about The Club:

Sam loves the online diary
University student Sam still uses the online diary regularly. He says, "The Biggest Loser Club diary showed me why it is so important to stick to a weighed amount of food at first - going over can quickly blow your calorie target out the window. I just type in what I have eaten and the online diary tells me how much exercise I need to do to 'work' that food off. It really makes you think!"

Alison and the fat blobs
Totally transformed from the shy, self-conscious size-26 mother of three, Alison is now a confident woman of sass and style who works in a gym inspiring others to get fitter and happier for life, too.

"I loved The Biggest Loser Club fat blobs chart - those horrible yellow blobs that represent a kilo of weight lost; seeing each one of those dreadful things made me feel really good. That nasty, yellow fat was going, week by week from my body, never to return!"

Kirsten knows nutrition
Kirsten played water polo at world-class level around 10 years ago. Back then, food was fuel and Kirsten could eat pretty much what she wanted. But, that was then...

After being given a rundown on The Biggest Loser Club, Kirsten realised she still had much to learn about food. She says, "I thought I knew a lot about food and nutrition before, but I didn't. Now, I know so much more and I have a much better idea about what I should eat. Plus, I can make educated guesses when I'm out and check the facts later - The Biggest Loser Club makes managing my weight so much easier!"
