Exclusive Interview: Human Nature

You've had such a long time in the industry. What keeps you going? We still love what we do so much and enjoy changing it up for ourselves and our fans that our passion stays incredibly strong. Anything in life is a challenge but the rewards of doing a concert or a great performance are always worth it.
How has the industry changed since you first started?
For us - we know a lot more about the way it works now - which is good and bad in a way. The innocence of just starting out is great but the wisdom of surviving is powerful as well. The Internet and downloading has changed music a huge amount and it will never be the same because of that, but one thing that will always stay the same is that people will always want to see bands live - that's what's exciting to us.
Is it a challenge to keep reinventing your sound? What inspires you to try new things?
Yeah it is a challenge to keep it fresh. We always want to keep ourselves invigorated and striving for new things so that's mainly what keeps us inspired.
Was recording with an orchestra, like you have done in your most recent album 'A Symphony of Hits', something you had had in mind for a while?
Actually no, it came about after a request from the Sydney Symphony Orchestra was made for us to do some concerts with them in December this year. We loved the idea of re-working our songs and some covers that mean a lot to us for a full 70 piece Orchestra that we decided to make and album of it too.
Did the way any of the songs ended up sounding surprise you?
Definitely, I really love our version of both 'Got To Get You Into My Life' and 'Danny Boy' - the way they sound with the full Orchestra is amazing. Also the re-worked versions of our past hits 'People Get Ready' and 'When You Say You Love Me' are so beautiful that they alone make having done the album worthwhile.
Was there any debate over what songs were included? Did you each have favourites?
We were pretty unanimous on most songs. It was a struggle to decide which Motown songs to include but in the end, we agreed on everything. All the songs really seemed to have leaned themselves perfectly to the Symphony treatment.
Was there any nostalgia involved when re-recording some of the older songs? Did it bring back any unexpected memories?
The hits off our first album ('Wishes', 'Don't Say Goodbye' and 'People Get Ready') really did bring back awesome memories about the surprising success of that record and touring with both Michael Jackson and Celine Dion around the world. Also recording the two Beatles tracks was a great memory of the time we had working with Sir George Martin at the Sydney Opera House.
What can fans expect from your upcoming tour?
I'm hoping it will be an absolutely beautiful night of amazing music. It'll be lush and romantic but there'll be some dancing and a huge amount of energy too. There'll be more than 80 people on stage!! It's going to be a fantastic experience for sure.
Is there anything you'd like to say to your fans out there, who are still with you after all these years?
Just that we can't thank them enough for supporting us and listening to our music for all these years. We still love performing for them and I hope we can keep sharing the great times together for years to come.
