Avoid the single supplement

Friendships

If you're single and love to travel, then undoubtedly you'll have come across the penalty applied to the single traveller - the single supplement. Why is it that singles are regarded as suckers when it comes to travel?

We're seemingly singled out (excuse the pun!) and are often charged extra simply for travelling alone. While other service industries have made strides to cater for singles, for example supermarkets providing a range of individual meals, the holiday industry appears to punish the solo traveller. The dreaded single room supplement can pile hundreds of dollars onto your holiday bill, and can be enough to put you off travelling.

So what's the solution?

Room mate matching is a great way of avoiding the single supplement and if you're travelling with a friend or happy to make a new one, then this is a great solution. Sophie, 37, travelled with a singles group tour to Egypt and requested a room mate to share with, she was placed with Natalie and the 2 are now firm friends and have since holidayed together again! Sophie says "I had to take the plunge and be brave but it was well worth it, I made a great new friend, had a fantastic holiday and didn't pay through the nose as I would have done going it alone - I'd recommend it to anyone".

RSVP singles holidays offer a room mate matching service so you can avail of the twin share rates and avoid paying the single supplement.
