According to a recent RSVP survey of over 4,000 Australian singles, gone are the days of old-fashioned courtship or first dates of dinner and a movie. Today, those looking for love are more likely to meet over a cup of coffee, a reflection of how new generation singles value their time.As with the first coffee they share, most singles don't expect their search to be instant. Singles take their time in researching the perfect partner before arranging a first date. And 70% of members believe that online dating is
better than its offline equivalent.
Here's what the RSVP survey reveals about first dates:
- Going out for coffee is the perfect first date, according to 40% of singles who took the quicker option over the
2% who made it to the movies. - The average first date goes for only two hours, according to one in three Australian singles.
- Australian singles are spending less on dates with 63% spending just $20 on the first date.
- Despite these coffee connections, 40% of online daters log on approximately three times a week for an average
of half an hour to research their online options. - Although 35% of singles initiate five first contacts a month, only one date a month occurs.
- And 70% of singles are dedicated to the online search.
