Battle of the Blockbuster Exes
In the aftermath of the Academy Awards, it seems that once again, we have an Oscar 'first' in the headlines. The first time a female Director has won the Best Director nod. Fantastic! But this is not just any female. Kathryn Bigelow just so happens to be James Cameron's ex-wife. Direct to DVD
Direct-to-video (better known now as direct to DVD) is a phrase that continues to have a stigma attached. No level of format updating can change the fact that the movie did not make it to the cinema - and some people just can't get past that. Clark Gable's line "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn" from Gone With The Wind was voted the most memorable American movie quotation of all time by film artists, critics, and historians. Some of the funniest/corniest/most romantic or most memorable lines in film continue to fill the spaces in our everyday dialogue. Did it deserve the Oscar?
Over the past 80 years, flicks have been given the nod by the Academy, and have been awarded with the statuesque golden guy we know as Oscar. Sometimes (or quite often) we find the gift of gold was completely unjustified.
