Vampire Romance is undead
If you have been living under a rock beneath the sea, then you won't know what I'm talking about. For all the other 'day walkers', you'll know exactly what I mean. Vampires are an incredibly popular subject to write about, especially of late.But this is no new craze, it seems the movement comes and goes and has done so since Bram Stoker's classic Dracula was first published in 1897. So you think you can write children's books?
Kylie, Whoopi Goldberg, Jools Oliver, Jamie Lee Curtis and even the wholesome Spice Girl Geri Halliwell and Madonna have tried their hand at writing children's story books. What is it with the celebrities thinking they can sell just about anything? Most of the above would not strike me as being the ideal candidates for writing books targeted at children (or writing books, full stop!). What do you think? Read more »

Looking at the book beyond the cover...
The expression "Don't judge a book by its cover" has been used for centuries. Have you ever actually considered how authors and booksellers feel about this phrase? Let's take this saying quite literally for a moment and find out if it really is unimportant what the cover of a book looks like. Surely you've been in a bookstore and picked up an unknown title because the cover was attractive to you or intriguing in some way? Read more »

Research a Relationship
Visit any bookstore and you will find a book or two (or a whole section!) dedicated to dating and relationships. You may have even grabbed for one out of sheer curiosity - or a momentary lack of restraint. Some can be quite insightful, interesting and even informative, whilst others paint pictures you've seen a thousand times, or deliver a fresh shipment of far-fetched baloney. Read more »

The Book Was so much Better!
It seems all literature at some point is brought to life (sometimes massacred!) in the form of a major blockbuster film, or adapted to a low budget indie flick. There are countless movies that should have remained on paper, but there are also many films that successfully depicted the books they were drawn from. There is also the rare circumstance where the movie blows the book out of the water. Read more »
