How to Use RSVP

What is RSVP

RSVP is Australia's largest online dating site enabling members to contact other members for friendship and long-term relationships - where you control the possibilities it offers. It's a safe, secure way to meet other singles, enabling you to search members based on age, gender, height, ethnicity, interests and hobbies, music tastes, relationship expectations and much more.

If you're a first time visitor, welcome! We do encourage you to visit our section on Dating Safety, to help ensure your experience is a fun and safe one.

How to join (it's free)

Simply click Join Now at the top of this page! Registration is free, and includes 3 sections:

To ensure your personal identity is kept private, we request you nominate an RSVP name, which is how other members identify you. Other personal information such as your email address and real name is NEVER published. How to contact members

To communicate with another member on RSVP, you need to be registered and have an active profile. There are 4 ways you can communicate with another member - kisses, email, instant messaging and Safe Calling.

  • Kisses are used to flirt and see if there is an initial attraction between you and the other member.
  • You will need a Stamp to open up a contact channel with another member which allows you a 30 day period by which you can email and instant message freely with that member.
  • While you have a contact channel open you can also use Safe Calling for an additional charge.
  1. RSVP Kiss: is a message you can send to another member to let them know that you're interested and would like to get to know them. Our RSVP Kiss automatically includes a link to your profile so the other member can find out about you and if you have a password-protected photo, you can include them in the Kiss. RSVP Kiss also features auto-replies for members so they can respond to you indicating their level of interest.
  2. Emails: you can send an email via our secure and anonymous email exchange. This is exactly the same as writing an email to a friend, where you can write what you want. It costs one stamp to send an email, and the communication between you and this member is open for 30 days via our secure email system so you've got plenty of time to get to know them via RSVP email before you exchange your personal email address or telephone number. If you've received an email from a member and don't wish to continue contact, please let them know you're not interested - and in the event they continue to contact you, add them to your Blocked List.
  3. IM (Instant Messaging): To initiate a chat with a particular member it will cost you 1 stamp. A stamp will give you a time-frame of 30 days to chat with this member. Within this period, you have an open channel to initiate any number of chat sessions with that particular member without incurring another stamp.
  4. Safe Calling : Talk over the phone with other RSVP members using Safe Calling without disclosing any phone numbers - this allows you to maintain your anonymity. To make a call, you will need to send an invitation first. Once the member has accepted your invitation, you can call them during their confirmed availability as shown on their RSVP Profile. You will need to have a communication channel open by using a stamp and purchase Safe Calling Credits to make the calls. We suggest that you open the channel first via email or chat to establish communication before making a call.

Safety Tips

In both the virtual and real worlds, common sense is your best safety tool.

  1. Guard Your Anonymity. Never include your last name, real email address, personal Web site URL, home address, phone number, place of work, or any other identifying information in your profile or initial emails you exchange with other members. Take all the time you need to become comfortable with someone before revealing any personal contact information. Ask questions and make sure you are satisfied with the answers. Trust your instincts, move cautiously and be selective.
  2. Keep your personal details private. Don't give out your surname, phone numbers or address details to anyone over the Internet, until you feel safe to do so. If you choose to share your personal email address with another member, it is strongly recommended you create a web based email address such as Yahoo or Hotmail, and ensure you do not include your full name in the sender's details. Also, avoid using work emails, as it's often easy to work out who sally.smith@abccompany.com.au is.
  3. Meet When YOU Are Ready. The beauty of meeting and relating online is that you can gradually collect information and then make a choice about pursuing the relationship in the real world. You are never obligated to meet anyone, regardless of your level of online intimacy. And even if you do decide to arrange a meeting, you always have the right to change your mind. It's possible that your decision to keep the relationship at the anonymous level is based on a hunch that you can't logically explain. Trust yourself.
  4. Talk on the Phone. There's no need to jump from online chats to a face-to-face meeting. Use Safe Calling as an additional checkpoint which retains your anonymity by not disclosing phone numbers. You can tell a lot about people by their mannerisms on the phone.
  5. Choose a Safe Place. If you decide to meet face-to-face, be sure to pick a safe location, full of people, and familiar to you. Always arrange to meet in a busy public place - and arrive and leave on your own, using your own transport. Avoid hikes, bike rides or drives in remote areas for the first few dates. If you decide to move to another location, take your own car.
  6. Take a friend along. At least at the beginning, to meet your date and ask the friend to meet up with you again at a pre-arranged time. Work out a signal with your friend to indicate whether you would prefer that he or she stay with you. If you're not with a friend, tell someone where you are going, who with (include the person's name, phone number and address) and when you'll be back. Most importantly, stick to it.
  7. Don't accept lifts. Initially, don't go home with your date, invite them back to your home or accept a lift.'
  8. Trust your instincts. If you feel uneasy about someone, there may be a reason. Don't tell yourself you're being silly. Diffuse the situation and get out of there. It's always better to be safe than sorry. Never worry or feel embarrassed about your behaviour. Your safety is much more important than one person's opinion of you.

Tips to writing a profile

Getting started

What you say about yourself speaks volumes. First of all, don't panic! It's a profile, not a life story. And it is meant to reflect something about you, so unless you are a prize winning author, people won't be expecting a literary masterpiece. Keep it light and friendly, and avoid adding anything negative. Never include your last name, email address, home address, phone number, place of work or any other identifying information in your member profile.

Everyone wants to meet an honest person. It is extremely important that you portray yourself in an honest light from the very outset - starting with your profile. While discretion is recommended, lying is not, so be honest when you post your profile and photos. The 'real' people, the ones you want to meet, don't expect perfection. In fact, if someone seems too good to be true, they probably are. So be honest, be yourself and start off on the right foot. What might begin as an online flirtation could turn into the real thing unless you've built yourself an image you can't live up to.

The more people know about you, the more comfortable they will feel in contacting you, or initiating conversation with you. So if you want to get a greater response to your profile, and begin meeting more people today then make sure you write a detailed profile.

Profile etiquette

  1. Be specific. The key is to paint a broad enough picture of yourself while providing as much detail as possible about your personality, likes and dislikes without sounding like you are reciting a list. There are a lot of intelligent, attractive, fun single people out there who write things like 'I like to watch movies'. What does that tell you about them? If you like movies, give examples. Adjectives like: nice, smart, kind, warm, funny, honest, successful, ambitious, family-oriented - don't really help define who you are, and does nothing to separate you from the rest. Explain what makes you who you are. Use adjectives and add detail, i.e., 'I'm a playful 32 year old architect who likes to relax by reading mystery novels.'
  2. Elaborate on the 'whys'. You might think you're writing something specific when you list your interests: 'hiking, biking, movies, music, travel,' but really - don't most people dig this stuff, too? If you're going to mention something, make it as specific as possible. Where do you hike? What was your best holiday experience and why? What's the city you're just dying to visit one day - and why?
  3. Ask yourself: 'Can anybody else say the same thing?' You want a person who is honest? You like to laugh? You're done playing games? Join the crowd. Better yet, come up with a more creative way to express these same sentiments.
  4. Leave the clichés to everyone else. It's cool that you 'work hard and play hard', are 'equally comfortable in a little black dress and a pair of jeans', and 'are looking for your best friend and partner in crime', but so is the next person on my search list. And the next person. And the next... What do you work hard at? What takes up your play time and why do you find it so enjoyable? What characteristic traits should this 'best friend' have, and once you meet him or her, what type of things would you enjoy doing? What special occasions do you slip into that little black dress for and what activity heralds pulling out the old jeans?
  5. Watch the bragging. You can talk about yourself at great length without sounding like you're showing off, but it's a fine line. Avoid subjective evaluations such as 'I'm very attractive/intelligent/funny' and focus on illustrating the same points. Your picture will let everyone know that you're attractive. Your grammar and diction will indicate that you're intelligent. Your humour will come across in your profile. Show us, don't tell us.
  6. Don't define yourself by what you don't want. So you've dated enough people to determine that you don't want someone who's a liar, who doesn't look after themselves, or who is chronically unemployed. Turn those negatives into positives or just leave them out. Share what you like best in a partner. Don't be negative or cruel. Instead, say what you want, i.e., 'A guy who knows the difference between Monet and Manet, yet can also clean-and-press a 50 kg barbell.' When you are talking about the person you are looking for, be clear about your requirements, but make sure you don't limit yourself unnecessarily. This will help people reviewing your profile know what your expectations are, and if you would be a good match or not. If you do not want to date someone who has kids, say so, but first think about whether it's an absolute! If you do not want to go out with smokers, mention it clearly in your profile. Write your profile with items that you are very sure you absolutely want or do not want in a potential partner. Mention if you are looking for a stable relationship or if you are just looking to make friends and will see how things go from.
  7. Tell the truth. (No explanation required)
  8. Come across as optimistic. Write in an upbeat style. Similarly, don't apologize for posting. Be positive and assertive. Nothing attracts more than a positive outlook.
  9. Add a photo. We're not kidding that a photo gets 10+ times more interest than one that doesn't - 92% of all searches indicate they're looking for profiles with photos. Why? Because it helps put a face to what you write and gives the feeling that this person is legitimate. It's got nothing to do with how you look! Make sure your picture quality is good; don't hide behind a hazy image. You want the person to see your expression, smile and eyes. It should be a flattering picture, naturally, but not so 'perfect' that it gives a false impression. The photo should be fairly recent and resemble, as much as possible, what you'll look like when you walk through the door for that first meeting.
  10. When you respond. When you respond to member's emails, show them that you actually read what they wrote, and aren't just turned on by their picture or physical description. That's one of the benefits of a more detailed profile - it gives potential suitors something to write to you about.

Questions to help you get started

Need help to get you going? Here are some questions to help you construct that perfect profile. Remember: be sincere and honest. Write like you talk. Show your personality.

  • What are your five most positive characteristics? If you're unsure, ask a good friend or family member how they'd describe you and why.
  • Have you done much travelling? What's your favourite place and why? Do you have any interesting stories to share? Where would you like to travel to next and in what style?
  • What does an ideal weekend involve? Perhaps reading the papers, followed by brunch, then a leisurely walk along the beach collecting sea shells. Or are you the energetic type that needs to cram in maximum thrills?
  • Your favourite food? Can you cook and if so, what does the ideal meal consist of?
  • Your music interests and why? Who are your favourite artists?
  • What's your preference - a night out on the town or something more sedate? What makes a perfect night out or in?
  • How important are family and friends? Do you spend much time with them? Do you have children - if so, what ages?
  • What sports do you participate in and how often? Perhaps you're more of an armchair sports fan? Favourite teams and why?
  • Type of work that you do and how much time you spend/how important it is? Do you like it or planning on a new career this year? Remember to keep it positive.
  • What are you looking for? Just friends or something potentially more committed? What qualities do you find interesting in someone? Should they share similar interests, and if so, which ones in particular? Do you want (more) children? Should they have children, or doesn't it matter. Should they live nearby or if not, how far are you willing to travel?

Example of a good profile

A good profile is one that paints a good picture of someone's personality, provides insight to what they do/their interests and clearly sets out what kind of a relationship they're looking for - so they don't waste the time of unsuitable people contacting them. Finally, there's enough in the profile below to find something to strike up a conversation!

Once you get past the accent that's one part Aussie, one part Canadian, a pinch of German and mixed well with more than 50 other countries, you'll probably work out that I am a study of, what I think, intriguing contrasts. My days of incessant wandering of remote four corners of the world with my few life savings stuffed in my worn backpack ended in my early thirties when a homeless kitten made me 'mom'. Of course, she needed a companion, so suddenly two reasons to adjust to a more stationery life. A few years later, two gorgeous lab puppies made that four, yet the labs were purely selfish additions, as I wanted someone to talk to while kayaking. And trust me, those early days were swimming excursions rather than kayaking, and considering they have me wrapped around each paw, still mostly are. Even our bushwalking and cycling outings inevitably end up in a creek, pond, river or anything else that contains water with me as soggy as those two. Naturally, there are times when I crave the glamour of a night out, slinky dress and high heels in an idyllic spot sipping a glass of red before dinner, but those cravings are getting fewer. These days I tend to prefer the picnic affair beside some picture perfect lake - with the crystal glass of red sensibly replaced by a plastic tumbler! Naturally, the puppies (though grown now, I can't bear to call them 'dogs') in tow - yet they carry their own lunchpacks.

I definitely have an adventurous streak -- whether it's trying out an exotic recipe in the kitchen (emphasis on 'trying'), abseiling in the Blue Mountains or learning to surf (again, emphasis on 'learning'). Yet, I do have more peaceful time as well, which is generally filled with listening to music (Dianna Krall's a favourite at the moment - she's got an exquisite voice) and painting. I rarely have time, nor the inclination, for TV - my attitude is that I'd rather be doing something than lounging on the couch. I work as a creative director, so spend most of the time stuck in front of the computer with the only breaks a quick 5 minute lunch down the road or getting one of the obligatory 22 cups of coffee (must aim to cut down) to get and keep me going with my self-inflicted 4.30am start each work day. Combined with a voracious appetite, that means doing active stuff is a necessity.

The type of guy that I'm attracted to is one who still thinks about 'what am I going to do when I grow up', whether richly successful or not. It's the type of guy who's not fixated with 'I hate my job' but does nothing about it. I guess it's the type of man who see's the glass being half full rather than half empty. The right man not only fascinates me but also brings out the best in me. We push each other to be the greatest people we can be. We bolster each other's egos and we leave short, thoughtful messages for each other when we're away on business trips - ok, so the latter may be a bit OTT, but that's what a wish list is for. If you're comfortable in your own skin, have a strong sense of self and aren't afraid to expose your flaws, I'm sure we'll get along just fine. And if you're at least 5'10, adventurous by nature and don't mind a tumble in the backyard (with the puppies of course), you're definitely welcomed!

Communicating with Members

Managing your contacts (to / from)

RSVP helps you to keep track of your contacts through the 'Mailbox' feature. Here you can:

  • keep track of the emails and kisses you have sent and received;
  • see the contacts you have made; and
  • view the emails you have sent and received from members

To access this feature

  • Log on to RSVP
  • Go to the ''Mailbox'
  • Then select 'inbox', 'outbox', 'contacts', 'contact history', 'favourites', 'blocked', or 'ignored' from the drop down menu

Reply Rate

RSVP calculates your Reply Rate to recent emails and kisses from other members. This is shown on both your inbox and in 'My Home'. You should aim for as high a Reply Rate as possible, not just as a simple courtesy to other members but it will also assist you with your success on RSVP.

Your Reply Rate is measured by your replies to individual members within the last month. As long as you have responded to a member by kiss or email it will be considered a complete reply. So for example, if a member sends you 3 kisses and you reply with an email your Reply Rate is considered to be 100%.

To improve your Reply Rate, respond to all contacts in the last month.

My Favourites

This function lets you add member profiles in an easy to find and manage location. If you're interested in a member, simply click on the 'Add to Favourites'. You must be logged on to use this feature. From this list, you can:

  • include your own personal comments about this member
  • send a kiss
  • send an email
  • initiate a chat session if the member is online
  • remove profiles from your favourites

Viewing/responding to a Kiss

There are two ways to reply to an RSVP Kiss.

  1. Reply from your html email
    • if you have chosen to receive HTML emails, there's a link to 'Reply' contained in the body text
    • clicking on this link will open an internet browser, and direct you to the view message page
    • at the bottom, click on 'Reply to Kiss'
    • this then lets you select how you want to reply (interested or not with variations)
    • click the 'Submit' button to send the kiss reply.
    • you can change from plain text to HTML emails by clicking 'My Home' then 'Account Details'
  2. Reply from your rsvp account
    • log on to your profile at www.rsvp.com.au
    • Go to the 'Mailbox' menu
    • Select 'inbox' link from the drop down menu
    • this section displays all the contacts you've received from members
    • you should see the RSVP name of the member that sent you the kiss
    • click on the link to view your message
    • at the bottom, click on 'Reply to Kiss'
    • this then lets you select how you want to reply (interested or not with variations)
    • click the 'Submit' button to send the kiss reply.

And just a quick note: it's free to reply to a Kiss email you've received, so whether you're interested or not, please take the courtesy to respond regardless of your decision to pursue contact or not. It's good practice, especially if the tables are turned and you're the one waiting for a reply to a Kiss you sent someone.

Mailbox

This menu lets you keep track of the emails and kisses you have sent and received. It also allows you to see which members you currently have an open contact with, who is online, and members that you have blocked.

Blocking Members

Use this feature if you feel that you need to block an RSVP from viewing your profile or contacting you. The blocked member will still appear when you search the site, but if they search the site; your profile will not appear to them.

To block a member from sending you a kiss/email:

  • Simply click the 'block contact' button, on the bottom of the email or kiss message.
  • Alternatively, you can block a member by logging on to your RSVP account
    • in the RSVPName search, locate the member and click to view their profile
    • click on 'Add to Favourites'
    • this will automatically redirect you to 'Favourites'
    • click on the "block" button
    • this member is now in your Blocked list

If you've exchanged private email addresses:

Please note that we've implemented a contact system where you can communicate with a member for 30 days using one stamped email on our network - so you've got plenty of time to work out if you want to exchange private email addresses. If you're exchanging private email addresses, it's highly recommended to use a Hotmail or Yahoo! mail account for extra security.

Suspect/Inappropriate Profile

The purpose of RSVP is to provide a safe environment for genuine singles to meet others, and we have a number of procedures in place to maintain this integrity. First, we encourage our members to be honest in their profiles and only upload current photos of themselves. We request confirmation of email addresses and mobile numbers to ensure contact initiated by our members goes to a valid person. Finally, we manually approve all profiles and photos for appropriate content. Unfortunately, we cannot check the integrity or truthfulness of profiles and do rely on our members to alert us to suspect profiles.

If you find a suspect profile, perhaps containing inappropriate content, a celebrity photo or otherwise, please Contact Us with the details of the suspect profile, including their RSVPName. As a result of our investigations, we will determine whether it is appropriate to take any further action against the member complained of.

Safe Calling

Overview

Safe Calling offers RSVP members another way to contact each other safely and securely. Talk over the phone with any other RSVP member without revealing your phone number.

How to get set up

To set up your profile for Safe Calling you will need to complete the following checklist:

  1. Register a mobile phone and/or landline number in your Account Details. You need to register at least 1 number to activate safe calling but you can add up to 3 numbers (1 mobile and 2 landlines) depending on your preference. Having multiple numbers registered gives you more options when using the service..
  2. Confirm your phone number(s). Once you have added your phone number(s) in your Account Details and clicked Submit, the system will take you through the confirmation process for each number you have submitted.
    1. Mobiles: you will be given a unique code, SMS the number to 19993355.
    2. Landlines: write down the unique code provided and click the call me button when you are ready to receive a call from us. Simply answer the phone and follow the prompts to enter the code. Please note that it may take up to 20 minutes for the system to confirm the number after this process.
To check if your phone is confirmed simply view its status in your Account Details.
  3. Confirm the times you are available for calls. You can do this in the My Availability section of your Calendar.
  4. Purchase Call Credits and Stamps if you wish to initiate contact with others.
  5. Before you can make a call, you will need to have a channel open with the other member. This requires the use of a Stamp - this will either be deducted when you make the first call to that member or we recommend you send the member an email or chat prior to calling.
  6. Members can choose to accept calls directly or require 'invitations' as a prerequisite. If an invitation is required you will be prompted to send an invitation to the other member when you click the Call Me button. Once they approve your invitation their availability times will be visible on your calendar and you can call them during those times. We recommend sending them an email to arrange a time to call and to make that time available in your calendars.

How Safe Calling works

Safe Calling uses your existing phone numbers that are registered and confirmed with RSVP. Here's how it works:

  1. Once you are setup to make a call and have the necessary requirements (permission from the member, open channel and call credits) click the call me button on their profile page and follow the prompts.
  2. You will be asked to select the phone number (yours) that you would like to use for the call and also select the time delay for the call to happen.
  3. Our phone technology will then call you on that number at the designated time.
  4. When you answer, you will be connected with the member you are calling.

Checklist

Having problems? Make sure you've done the following;

  • Have at least one phone number confirmed on your account (you'll find this in your Account Details)
  • Have permission from the member you're trying to call (if required) by sending an invitation
  • Call during the member's available times (once you have their permission to call you can see this information displayed on their profile - mid right hand side of the page) it will also be displayed in your calendar
  • Purchased Safe Calling credits
  • Have an open channel with the member by the use of a stamp, we recommend sending them an email or chat first and use safe calling when you're both ready.

Pricing

One stamp will give you 30 days to communicate as much as you like through email, chat and Safe Calling with another member on RSVP.

To make Safe Calling calls, you will also need Calling Credits. You can purchase the following packages:

Price Minutes Per Minute
$9.95 10 $1.00
$19.95 25 $0.80
$34.95 50 $0.70
$59.95 100 $0.60

Call credits expire 6 months after purchase.

Safety and Privacy

RSVP acts as the intermediary to connect the phone call between RSVP members - we do not disclose member phone numbers so you know you're safe and can choose to remain anonymous. When you click the call button you will receive a phone call that upon answering connects you to the member you wish to speak to. Therefore, despite using existing phone lines, the process ensures that members are able to remain anonymous. Important: make sure that you do not state any personal details on your voicemail, for instance if you are using your mobile phone number make sure that your voicemail message does not divulge private details so that if an RSVP member gets diverted to your voicemail it does not give out your personal information.

My Availability

Before you can start receiving calls from other members you must set your availability. If you do not have any availability set then no one can contact you through Safe calling. As a security measure your availability defaults to none.

You can start setting available times to receive calls by going to your My Availability page. From here you can:

  • Set your permission settings: you can either force members to send you an invitation first, or allow anybody to call you during your availability.
  • Set an available time and specify it to a specific number, there are two ways that you can do this:
    • Add a One-Off availability: this allows you to set a specific date and time for when you will be free at a future date.
    • Add Recurring availability: for example you are available every Monday between 7pm and 9 pm, this tool allows you to set this available time slot for all Mondays in the future.

My Calender

You will have access to a Calendar facility that will act as a central hub for all your Safe calling activity. It highlights your availability to receive calls and also the availability of the members you have permission to call. The Calendar displays a 7 day outlook and as a default will revert to your current time zone. You will be able to update the time zone you wish to be on and also view the 7 day outlook from any particular day in the calendar year.

Send a Song

Sending a song

What is send a song?

Send a song was a feature that allowed RSVP members to send songs as a gift to another member. This product was discontinued on 11 August 2008 and is no longer available on the site.

If you have any queries regarding any book of songs currently in your account, please Contact Us with the subject line "song enquiries" and one of our support staff will be able to assist you.

Downloading / playing a song I've received

What do I need to download / play the song on my computer?

  • To download and play songs, your computer will need:
  • Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player Version 7.1 or above
  • Web browser - Internet Explorer 6+ OR Mozilla's Firefox*
  • Sound Blaster or compatible sound card
  • Speakers or headphones connected to your PC

What are the license restrictions for the song I have downloaded?

When you download a song in Windows Media Audio (*.wma) format, a license is also downloaded to your computer. The song is protected and will require the license to be present to unlock the music. This is also referred to as Digital Rights Management (DRM). The DRM function allows you to transfer the song to your portable music player and create a CD (burn) up to 3 times for the downloaded song. There are, however, some older portable music players that are not capable of supporting DRM protected music. Please check with your portable music player manufacturer for more information.

My download was interrupted, and now the link does not work

Please Contact Us and include in the subject line "download interrupted - require re-activation" and we will action your request ASAP.

I can't play the songs that I've downloaded to my PC. What do I do?

This could be due to a host of reasons, but the two most common are related to license issues and/or unsupported formats in your Media Player (e.g. Windows Media Player).

License issue

There are two steps involved in the music downloading process:

  1. When you click on the "Download" button, you will first download a 'license' for the music. This license allows you to play the music once it is downloaded. Without this license, you will not be able to play songs.
  2. Once your license has been downloaded and installed into your Windows Media Player correctly, you'll then be prompted to download your music file. Click on the "Continue" button to proceed.
Unsupported music file format in Music Player

The songs and music in our store are delivered to you in Windows Media Audio (*.wma) formats respectively. When you play the songs you have downloaded, please ensure that the Media Player you are using (such as Windows Media Player) is able to support these formats.

You can use Windows Media Player 7.1 or above to play your songs. To check for the version of Windows Media Player that you currently have on your PC, start Windows Media Player and navigate to "Help" > "About Windows Media Player".

If you wish to obtain the latest version of Windows Media Player, please go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/download/ to download from the Microsoft website.

If you have clicked on the "Save" button during the downloading process and you are still experiencing playback problems, kindly contact RSVP directly.

I can't burn my music to a CD

Please ensure that your CD burning software allows you to burn protected Windows Media Audio (*.wma) music files. We recommend that you use Windows Media Player to burn your songs onto a blank audio CD.

You should also check that your music has sufficient remaining license rights to burn to CD.

If your computer is running Windows XP, you might want to take the following steps:

  1. Check that your CD recordable (CD-R) or CD rewritable (CD-RW) drive has the recent driver software from Windows Update.
  2. Try burning different files to the CD to make sure the problem isn't with the files being burned.
  3. Try different CD brands to see if another brand works.
  4. Lower the burn speed on your burner. The procedure for doing so varies depending on which version of Windows Media Player you are running.

I can't transfer (or sync) my songs to a portable music player

Here are a couple of items to help you determine why you might be having problems:

  1. Please ensure that your portable music player supports the Windows Media Audio (*.wma) file format.
  2. We recommend that you use Windows Media Player 9 or 10, or your player's music management software, to transfer music from your PC to your player. Performing a "Drag and Drop" or "Cut and Paste" to transfer music from your PC to your portable music player will not work as the license to play them will not be transferred.
  3. Some older portable players may not support the current standards for music purchased online, as they require a security setting on your player at a level of 1000. If you are considering buying a player, be sure to discuss this with the retailer or manufacturer.
  4. For ongoing issues, we suggest that you contact the relevant support groups for your player.

Please note: Apple iPod does not support the Windows Media Audio (*.wma) file format and therefore you will need to follow some simple steps to enjoy music on your iPod:

  1. Burn your music onto an audio CD (using Windows Media Player).
  2. Import (or rip) the music back into iTunes from the audio CD that you have just created.

I've downloaded my music but can't locate it on my PC

What do I do?

Following are some simple instructions to successfully download your music:

  1. When downloading a song from our store, we recommend that you click on the "Save" button during the download process and save your song into your "My Document/My Music" folder on your PC.
  2. Alternatively, you can also use the search function in Windows to locate your music. This is assuming that you have already clicked the "Save" button during the download process -
    1. Click "Start" from the bottom left corner of your Task Bar and select "Search".
    2. Select "Files" or "Folder" option.
    3. Select "Pictures, Music or Video" and enter the name of the song.
    4. Click "Search".

When I downloaded my music, I did not receive the prompt to save it

There is a chance that you have a pop-up blocker running which prevents the pop-up window prompting you to "Open", "Save", or "Cancel" the download.

If your PC is running on Windows XP (with Microsoft Service Pack 2 Update), please check at the top of your screen for a message reminding you that you have blocked pop-ups. This is a common security measure. If it happens, click on the message and request "Download File".

Why do I need a license to play a song?

My portable music player says that I am playing protected content, what does this mean?

All the content available for is protected using digital rights management (DRM), a technology we use to ensure that artists' creative works and performances are protected. DRM manages the use and distribution of the songs you have downloaded.

Each song you download requires that a license be delivered to you when you download it. That license defines how the protected file can be used in terms of how you play it on your PC, burn it to CD and sync it to your portable music player.

Downloading to more than one PC

I've used a PC in the office to download my song. When I try to download it again onto my home PC, Windows Media Player prompts me for a license and I am not able to play the song. Why is this happening?

You can only download a license for your song to one PC at a time. Once downloaded, you will be able to play the music file on that PC an unlimited amount of times.

Other ways to enjoy your music

This does not, however, mean that your listening pleasure is limited to the PC that you have used to download your music files. You can also transfer (or sync) your music files to a portable music player that supports the Windows Media Audio (*.wma) file format, or otherwise burn the song files onto an audio CD.

Please note that there is a limitation on the number of times you can burn and/or transfer songs due to the license agreement with the record labels.

You will be able to transfer a music file to a portable music player up to 3 times, and burn a song onto an audio CD up to 3 times.

To check the license details for a particular song using your Windows Media Player, right click on the file in the song list and select the "License" tab at the top of the pop-up window.

How many copies can I make?

How can I tell how many copies of my music I can make on my PC, CDs or portable music player?

We recommend that you back up your songs so you can easily restore them in the event of a PC hard disk failure or if your hard disk is reformatted.

To check how many copies you can make:

  1. Launch Windows Media Player 9 or 10 or 11
  2. Select "Library"
  3. Right click on the song and select "Properties"
  4. View the available number of copies you can make of the song from the "License" tab

Can I use the songs that I have downloaded to create a music video?

The songs downloaded are only for your personal non-commercial use, and are not to be used for any commercial purpose, redistribution or sale.

You may not distribute, exchange, modify, pass off, make derivative works of, sell or re-sell, or transmit to any other person.

Stamps & Your Account

What are Stamps?

RSVP stamps are the currency used on our network. It is used to initiate contact with others on the site and opens up a 30 day contact channel with the other person allowing you to email and/or chat to your heart's content with the other member within that period for free.

You can purchase using any major credit card online or by phone, PayPal, BPAY, or via cheque and money order. Alternatively, you can purchase 3 stamps via a premium 1900 number, charged to your telephone account.

When you send an email using a Stamp, the member can reply to you for free - and this channel of communication is open for 30 days. That means you can exchange as many emails as you like on our secure network during this period without incurring additional costs. This 30 day period also lets you work out whether you want to disclose your private email. This helps protect your privacy and security until you're ready to disclose it. At any time, you can block a member if you no longer wish to correspond with them.

With a stamped RSVP email you can include any details you like, including and not limited to your personal email address and mobile phone number. Please note that you should only disclose such information if you are comfortable in doing so.

What does it cost?

RSVP uses a cost per contact approach - providing you the benefit of contacting members at your own pace. RSVP Stamp books are pre-paid only - as we believe you can decide whether you want to continue using our services and simply purchase additional stamps if and when you want.

Finding members on RSVP

There are a number of ways you can find people that match your interests - from name search to a detailed advanced search which narrows your search results.

RSVP Name Search

If you know the RSVPname of the person you are interested in (eg they have sent you an introductory email and you're interested in viewing their profile), you can enter it in the 'RSVPname' box in the Search sections). If you've entered a valid RSVPname, you'll be taken to that member's full profile. However, if that member has hidden their profile, it will not appear.

Quick Search

This is the fastest way to find people on RSVP. Simply select the gender, age range and location that suits your preferences. You can also select whether you want a smoker or non-smoker, and someone with or without children. The number of results will depend on the criteria you specify; however, the Quick Search will usually give you a large number of results.

Full Search

The Full Search allows you to be quite specific about the types of people you're looking for. For example, you can specify personal characteristics such as height, body type and, hair and eye colours. If you don't get many matches, it may be that you've been a bit too specific in your criteria!

If you have set up your ideal partner profile, and you are logged on, the Full Search screen will automatically fill in the details of your ideal partner ready for you to start searching. Set up or change your ideal partner profile » (you need to be logged in).

Two-Way Search

Like the Full Search, the Two-Way Search lets you specify a range of search criteria. However, it also checks each match it finds against your profile, to ensure that you suit them. For example, if you are 35 years old and looking for someone between 32 and 40, and the search finds someone who is 27 but who is looking for someone over 30, a Full Search would return this person's details to you, but a Two-Way Search would not (because you are too young for them).

If you have set up your ideal partner profile, and are logged on, the Two-Way Search screen will automatically fill in the details of your ideal partner ready for you to start searching. Set up or change your ideal partner profile » (you need to be logged in).

You may also want to set up Cupid - so that future matches are conveniently delivered to your inbox by email. Set up or modify » (you need to be logged in).

Location Based Search

Our location based search works on postcodes. If a member has entered an incorrect postcode, they may show up in the wrong search results. If your postcode is not correct then all the search results you receive will be outside your area.

To ensure your postcode is correct:

  • log in to RSVP
  • Go to 'My Home'
  • Select 'Update Profile' from the drop down menu
  • you will be able to check or update your postcode here
  • click the 'submit' button at the bottom of the page to save your changes, our site will then ask you to confirm your suburb

Keyword Search

Keyword search allows you to search based on words that are found in other member's profile. You can add certain words or statements that will match your results with members that have the word stated somewhere in their profile. For instance if you type in the word 'tennis' it will only show members that have mentioned 'tennis' somewhere in their profile.

Here are some tips and tricks to get the most out of your keyword search:

  • It only searches for things others have put on their profile, so imagine what would be some of the words or statements your perfect date would use to describe themselves (or what they're looking for) in their profile?
  • To help focus your search use double quotes ("") to group words together to form a statement. For example if you search "good sense of humour" or "tired of the club scene" it will search it as a statement. It will not search each word separately but instead only search for members who have typed the statement in its entirety somewhere in their profile.
  • Use your imagination! Use it to enhance your search for others that have specific interests: movies, sports, music or even look for certain activities and topics you like sharing with others.

RSVP Events

About RSVP Events

In addition to providing our members a safe, quality environment to make contact with other singles online, we also host a variety of RSVP events nationwide. These events range from cocktail parties to harbour cruises to cooking classes and weekends away - and lots more. Designed to provide a quality environment for singles to meet other singles, it's also a great way for guests to find out about RSVP and its members prior to joining our community. The majority of our events are managed by RSVP Event Managers who are contracted to RSVP and host these on our behalf. Generally, there's something on every week around the country - so be sure that you're registered to receive our RSVP Events Alert which highlight events in your area.

What's on

To find out what's on in your area, click on the Events link in the hand navigation bar and select your State. All of our events are listed here. We also send notification of events in our fortnightly Events Alert email.

To sign up or modify your free RSVP email subscription:

  • log in to RSVP
  • go to 'My Home' in the navigation bar, then select 'Account Details' from the drop down menu option
  • select your preferences under the Email Settings section to receive or unsubscribe from the email
  • scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Submit button to save your settings
  • please note: you can unsubscribe from our emails at any time by clicking on the unsubscribe link provided in our emails

Who attends our events

Members and guests alike are welcome at our events, and there's as many people arriving solo as those who come with a friend. There are great ice breaker games and our hosts are experienced in introducing you to others and making you feel comfortable. As the majority of our members prefer attending events where the age range is more closely matched to their own, we generally provide a guide as to the age range of the party. This way there's no surprises. Finally, we do monitor male/female ratios so there's a relatively even balance.

Type of events

We have two type of events:

  1. those organised by our in-house event coordinator for major events such as Valentine's Day; these events are held to raise money for our major charity partner, the National Breast Cancer Foundation, with all profits being donated; and
  2. those organised by our Event Managers, who are contracted to RSVP for the purpose of providing events on behalf of RSVP.

From mega parties, which provide a great opportunity to meet lots of singles, to cocktail parties for the more discerning members who prefer a more intimate environment where age and male/female ratios are more closely monitored, it's about having a positive attitude and enjoying an environment to meet and mingle with other singles. We also host bushwalking, tennis, sailing, golf and a variety of other events from members who prefer the great outdoors or more active pursuits. These are generally smaller groups. Our cooking classes are a huge success - as they are hosted by a highly qualified chef and a fun filled night.

Pre-registering/Payment of Events

We strongly encourage members and guests to pre-register for our events, as it reserves your spot, enables us to manage male/female ratios and allows us to better cater for the event.

Instant Messaging

RSVP IM (Instant Messaging) lets you chat online via text -- in real time -- with other members who are currently logged on RSVP. You can even search for members who are currently online and have their IM enabled. All correspondence is conducted via our RSVP interface, so your real email address is never revealed to the other member.

Getting Started

Instant messages are text messages that you can send to other people who are online when you are. Your message is delivered immediately, and the person you sent the message to can immediately respond (or can choose not to respond) - just as in a face-to-face conversation. Here are a few basic steps to help you get started:

  • You need to be registered and logged on to use RSVP IM
  • To use RSVP IM, you need to have Pop Ups enabled
  • Log on to RSVP
  • Click on the My Home link in the main navigation bar, then select Account Details from the drop down menu
  • Scroll down to the heading of Instant Messaging
  • Set the limit of the number of Simultaneous Chat Sessions you want to have at any one time
  • Click on Submit button at the bottom of the page to save your preferences

Disable Instant Messaging

You can enable and disable Instant Messaging at any time.

  • Log on to RSVP
  • Click on the My Home link in the main navigation bar, then select Account Details from the drop down menu
  • Scroll down to the heading of Instant Messaging
  • Set the limit of the number of Simultaneous Chat Sessions to 'no chat'
  • Click on Submit button near the bottom of the page to save your preferences

Costs for Instant Messaging

To initiate a chat with a particular member it will cost you 1 stamp. A stamp will give you a time-frame of 30 days to chat with this member. Within this period, you have an open channel to initiate any number of chat sessions with that particular member without incurring another stamp. It is free to accept an instant message. The stamp initiates a chatting period and within that time either party has an open channel and can initiate further chat sessions with each.

Please do NOT accept an invitation to chat with a member if you are not interested in chatting with them - as this will cost them a stamp if you accept their invitation to chat with you.

Search for members to Instant Message

Not everyone has enabled the instant messaging setting on their profile and therefore there will be members that won't be ready to instant message with you. Also, you can only instant message with members who are currently online and are waiting to instant message therefore you will need to know how to identify them.

When conducting a Search you can specify it to only include members that are able and/or available for instant message. Make sure to adjust the search accordingly under the heading Available For Instant Messaging.

When viewing a particular profile you can see if they are chat enabled by looking at the top left of their profile page. Next to their RSVP name there will be a instant messaging icon that will indicate the status of the profile. You can put your mouse over the icon to display a message tag that will describe the meaning of the icon. The selection:

  • Are Online - currently online and available for Instant Messaging
  • Have Been Online - currently offline, but has Instant Messaging enabled
  • icon indicating member is online Member is online and available for instant messaging
  • icon indicating member has an open contact with you Member has an open contact with you, and further contact (via email or chat) is free for the duration of that open contact
  • icon indicating member has 1 free reply The open contact to this member has been stopped. You will not be able to engage in further contact until the current open contact has expired
  • icon indicating member's contact history Member's contact history
