Description

Late August. There I was, trawling the internet. Looking for life's next challenge. SurfCoast Century. Great Ocean Road, September. I signed up for the Half. A 50km ultra trail marathon, starting and finishing at Anglesea.

Leisurely drive down. Overnight stop in Albury, followed by Tropicana in Torquay. Start time 10am. Fabulous course. Loads of wildflowers. Hills, bushland trails, water crossings, wet feet, beach running, amazing scenery, well-stocked race kitchens. Hard work too. I crossed the finish line a little the worse for wear.

At the presentation the next day, I found myself on the podium. How did that happen? Trail running can be a lot of fun. Not just endorphins, but health, wellbeing, a sense of achievement, and so much more.

Lunch at Fishos in Torquay with family followed, then off to Echuca for the night. Breakfast the next morning. Is that a familiar face? Yep. A couple from the Mornington Peninsula I hadn't seen for a decade. Phil, suit-attired, off to give a keynote address.

And me? Well, I gave up all that work stuff years ago. After 25 years in Melbourne, career, family, academia, senior management and all that stuff, I opted for a total lifestyle change and fled to the Blue Mountains.

But this online dating stuff is tough. Really tough. Many seem to be taking it easy. Understandable I suppose, but not me. Too much fun to be had. Places to go. Things to do. Life to be lived. And a garden to worry about. Damn gardens. Whose idea was that?

If you're interested in cooking, dining out, delicious wine (I've been cellaring wine for decades), nature walks, travel or the arts, join me. Let's make a team together.

What I'm looking for

A friend, partner; travel companion; enthusiastic, active; interested in simple pleasures and some finer things in life.

My interests

Music
Various, from mellow jazz to majestic symphonies. Till Brönner, Melody Gardot and Ludovico Einaudi are a few current favourites but always looking for more. Finding new music to enjoy is mentally and aesthetically stimulating. Addicted to Spotify, Soundhound and internet radio.
Reading
Biography, history, family history, historic homes, science, medicine, philosophy. Currently reading Robert Macklin's, Hamilton Hume: Our Greatest Explorer. A fabulous account that sets the record straight on a truly significant achiever in our early colonial past.
Movies & TV
ABC, SBS
Sport
Trail running and ultra marathons. Sad, but also life changing! Keeping fit and active has become a key part of my lifestyle makeover - better than botox; cheaper than food supplements; far more effective than alt med.
Other Interests
Federation furniture, early colonial art, antiques, playing tour guide for friends. Locating, photographing and identifying native plants, Lightroom, PlantNET.
