Gold Coast Date Night Ideas
The Gold Coast changes character once the sun starts to drop. The light turns golden over the Broadwater, the high-rises light up along the beach, and the heat goes out of the day. That makes evening a lovely time to meet someone new, with plenty of places to sit, talk and see where the night goes.
We've pulled together date night ideas from Burleigh Heads to Miami, Surfers Paradise and Main Beach, and checked each venue for late 2026. Some are gentle first-date options you can wrap up in a couple of hours, others are better saved for when you'd like a whole evening together. Prices and hours change, so we've used budget bands, and it's worth checking the venue's website before you go.

Miami Marketta night market
Miami Marketta is a licensed night market with food stalls from around the world, a few bars and live local music. It opens from 5pm Wednesday to Saturday, entry to the night market is free and you don't need to book, so it's a relaxed way to share a meal without the formality of a restaurant.
Wander the stalls, pick a couple of dishes to share and find a seat under cover. Fridays and Saturdays are lively, so a Wednesday or Thursday visit is a good bet if you'd like a quieter chat. Parking is limited, so public transport or a rideshare is easier.

Sunset drinks at SkyPoint
SkyPoint sits at the top of the Q1 building in Surfers Paradise, with an observation deck 230 metres above the city and 360-degree views of the beaches and hinterland. The deck is open into the evening, with discounted "After Dark" entry, and SkyPoint Bistro + Bar lets you take in the view with a drink or a meal.
Time it for sunset, when the coastline changes colour and the city starts to glow. It's busy, public and easy to keep short, which makes it a good first date, and a nice step up for a second. The deck sometimes closes for private events, so check the hours page before you go.

An evening at HOTA
HOTA, Home of the Arts, on Bundall Road is the Gold Coast's arts precinct, and it's busy well after dark. The cinema screens new releases and arthouse films with evening sessions, and Comedy Underground runs a Saturday night showcase in The Basement with a mix of established and up-and-coming comedians (it's 16+, with adult themes).
The Exhibitionist Bar on level 5 of HOTA Gallery is a rooftop bar with city views, cocktails and share plates, open into the evening from Wednesday to Saturday. A drink there before a film or show, or a debrief afterwards, makes for an easy night out. It's also the best rainy-night plan on the coast.

Sunset kayak tour on the Broadwater
If you'd both rather do something than sit across a table, try a guided sunset paddle. Australian Kayaking Adventures runs a Sunset Adventure Kayak Tour of about an hour and a half, departing from and returning to Budds Beach in Surfers Paradise.
A guide takes care of the route, so all you need to do is paddle and enjoy the view as the sky changes colour. It suits couples with a reasonable level of fitness, and it's a fun way to break the ice on a second or third date. Book a table nearby for dinner afterwards and you've got a full evening.

Dinner at Rick Shores
Rick Shores sits right on the sand at Burleigh Heads and serves Pan-Asian food with uninterrupted ocean views. It's open into the evening, and the dishes are made for sharing, which keeps the mood easy and gives you something to talk about from the first plate.
Book an early table and you can watch the light fade over the water, then stroll along the well-lit Burleigh foreshore and Goodwin Terrace afterwards. It's a popular spot, so book ahead, and save it for a later date or a celebration.
Best for: later dates, special occasions · Budget: $$$ · Where: Burleigh Heads
Broadwater dinner cruise
For a night that feels like an occasion, try dinner on the water. Sea World Cruises runs a Buffet Dinner Cruise from its terminal at Main Beach, departing at 7pm and returning around 9.30pm. The route takes in the canals, the Broadwater, Marina Mirage and the Surfers Paradise skyline lit up at night, with a buffet, live music and an open-air deck for the views.
A cruise is a two and a half hour commitment and you can't step off early, so save it for a later date. Drinks are available from the bar on board, and there's parking at the terminal. Check which nights it's running when you book.

Dinner and a show at Dracula's Cabaret
For a big night out, Dracula's Cabaret Restaurant in Broadbeach mixes dinner with a show of comedy, live music, burlesque and aerial acrobatics. Performances run five nights a week, and the production changes over time, so check what's currently playing when you book.
It's cheeky and loud, with adult themes, so it suits couples who enjoy a laugh and already know each other a little. A good pick for a birthday or anniversary.

First date safety tips on the Gold Coast
- Meet somewhere public and well lit. A busy night market, a bar with a view or a venue like HOTA are ideal for first meetings. Skip quiet beaches and headland tracks after dark.
- Get yourself there and home. The G:link light rail runs along the coast through Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach, and Translink buses cover most other areas. Use a go card or contactless payment, and check the last tram or bus home before you head out. Driving yourself or booking your own rideshare works too.
- Tell a friend. Let someone know where you're going, who you're meeting and when you expect to be home.
- Keep it short. A drink or a wander through the market is enough for a first date. You can always plan a second.
- Keep the chat on RSVP until you're comfortable sharing your number or socials.
- Mind the drinks. Keep an eye on your glass and pace yourself.

Frequently asked questions
Pick something public, early in the evening and easy to end. Miami Marketta's night market or a drink at SkyPoint as the sun goes down both give you plenty to look at and talk about, without locking you in for a whole night.
Miami Marketta is free to walk into from Wednesday to Saturday evenings, with free live local music on several nights, so you only pay for what you eat and drink. A film at HOTA's cinema followed by a drink is another date night that won't break the bank.
Head to HOTA in Surfers Paradise. You can catch an evening film in the cinema or the Saturday night comedy showcase in The Basement, and The Exhibitionist Bar stays open into the evening from Wednesday to Saturday. Much of the seating at Miami Marketta is undercover too.
It's lovely, but it's about two and a half hours on a boat, so it suits a later date rather than a first meeting. Sea World Cruises runs a buffet dinner cruise on the Broadwater that leaves Main Beach in the evening, with live music and the Surfers Paradise skyline lit up.
The G:link light rail runs along the coast through Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach, and Translink buses cover most other areas. A go card or contactless payment works on both. Check the time of your last tram or bus home before you head out, and have a rideshare as a backup.
Book dinner at Rick Shores on the beachfront at Burleigh Heads, a Sea World Cruises dinner cruise, or a night at Dracula's Cabaret in Broadbeach. All three work best once you know each other a little and are happy to commit to a full evening together.
